Directions

You don't need to be a professional baker to have success with these cookie bars, but here are a few steps you'll want to be sure to follow to ensure they turn out perfectly.

STEP 1- CREAM BUTTER & SUGARS

Cream the softened butter and sugars for a few minutes until you get a mixture that looks like this. Make sure it's light and fluffy.

STEP 2- ADD DRY INGREDIENTS

Then add in the flour and dry ingredients and give it a good mix. Your dough should now look like this:

Hint: I never sift the flour and dry ingredients together first because that's just one extra bowl to clean. However, just make sure that you add the flour first, and then add the other dry ingredients onto the pile of flour. Stir quickly with a dry spoon to "sift" and then mix all together.

STEP 3- STIR IN CHOCOLATE CHIPS

Stir in the chocolate chips. There is no need to measure the amount of chocolate chips out. Just pour straight form the bag until you've added enough to your liking. I usually use about 2 cups.

This dough only takes about 5-7 minutes to make! Super fast and easy!

STEP 4- PLACE DOUGH IN PAN

With the dough all made, you're ready to bake! Spray your 9x13 pan pan with your favorite cooking spray. I use Vegalene cooking spray because it has less junk in it than typical spray. And the big can lasts forever.

Firmly press your dough into the pan so that the dough is evenly distributed. Sprinkle a few more chocolate chips on top for good measure!

Bake at 350 degrees F for 20-25 minutes. *See the FAQ for more details about this temperature and time!

I prefer the firm, crisp edges that my 9x13 pan give these cookie bars.

My dough is dry and crumbly. What do I do?

FAQs

What chocolate bar is best for cookies? ›

Dark chocolate, which contains from 50% to 90% cocoa solids, is often referred to as the best chocolate for cookies. The best type of dark chocolate for chocolate chip cookies will be the one that has at least 60% of cocoa solids.

Are chocolate chip cookies better at 325 or 350? ›

350° is the standard temp for a cookie, and it's a great one. Your cookies will bake evenly and the outside will be done at the same time as the inside. Baking at 325° also results in an evenly baked cookie, but the slower cooking will help yield a chewier cookie. The outsides will be a little softer, too.

Is it better to use semi-sweet or milk chocolate chips for cookies? ›

If you have a sweet tooth, use a milk chocolate that contains between 35% to 45% cacao. Milk chocolate is sweeter in flavor than dark chocolate, and will result in a much sweeter cookie. If you want to temper the sweetness of the milk chocolate, use half milk chocolate and half dark chocolate.

What percentage of cocoa is best for chocolate chip cookies? ›

Michelle Lopez of Hummingbird High recommended using a dark chocolate bar with a cacao percentage between 60% and 75%. “Baking bars don't use any stabilizers, and tend to have more cocoa butter instead of solids, making them more velvety and melty during the baking process,” she said.

What is the number 1 most popular chocolate bar? ›

Snickers is the top-selling candy bar in the United States and is produced by Mars, Inc. Is it better to melt or soften butter for chocolate chip cookies? ›

Melted butter is best suited for drop doughs such as chocolate chip, peanut butter, and sugar cookies, as well as most cookie bars. You can usually adapt recipes that don't originally call for melted butter to use this technique if you're looking for an even fudgier texture.

What is the secret to keeping chocolate chip cookies soft? ›

Putting a slice of fresh white bread in the container with the cookies will help the cookies stay soft: fresh bread is moist, and that slice will give up its moisture for the greater good: keeping the cookies from drying out.

Is 350 or 375 better for cookies? ›

What chocolate melts best in cookies? ›

For this reason, I prefer using dark chocolate bars, which contain more cocoa butter, creating a richer, smoother flavor, and allowing the chocolate to melt more easily when warmed.

What happens if you use milk chocolate instead of semi-sweet? ›

Both semisweet and milk chocolate consist of chocolate plus sugar, vanilla, and emulsifiers to keep them in bar or block form. Any solid chocolate (bittersweet, semisweet, or milk) can generally be swapped in and out in equal quantities. Just be ready for a slight difference in flavor.
